5S

The 5S is a methodology used to improve workplace organization and efficiency.

Here is an outline of a typical 5S training program:

 

  1. Sort – Seiri (整理)
  2. Set in order – Seiton (整頓)
  3. Shine – Seiso (清掃)
  4. Standardize – Seiketsu (清潔)
  5. Sustain – Shitsuke (躾)

5S has become 6S, the sixth element being safety.
