A Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) is a systematic analytical methodology adopted by Cross Functional Team (CFT) in order to assess the potential causes of failures in a process. PFMEA is a useful tool to determine the effect of the failure and evaluate and prioritize the actions to reduce risk.
Process FMEA is used when a new process is designed or major changes in process is initiated. PFMEA is a practice in which the engineering team evaluates all the possible causes for failure. Such methodology is often applied at early stage of the process development; however it can be beneficial in the daily basis improvement and problem solving. Unlike many quality improvement tools, FMEAs do not require complicated statistics. FMEA studies can reduce the potential liability of a process that does not perform as promised.
PFMEA is one of the requirements of PPAP system which is mandatory to Tier 1/ Tier2 vendors supplying parts to OEM.
• FMEA History
• Purpose, Benefits
• Types of FMEA
• Seven Step Approach as per new AIAG-VDA FMEA manual
• Step 1- Planning & Preparation
• Step 2-Structure Analysis
• Step 3-Function Analysis
• Step 4-Failure Analysis
• Step 5-Risk Analysis
• Step 6-Optimisation
• Step 7-Result Documentation
Who should attend?
This course is ideal for engineers (Manufacturing, Quality, Process Engineers) who are working with Tier1 / Tier2 suppliers for manufacturing parts for OEM. PFMEA basic knowledge is mandatory for all engineers intended to join OEM or Supplier. Fresh graduates must know about the PFMEA basics as related questions are part of entrance test for any OEM.
