Introduction:
A Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) is a systematic analytical methodology adopted by Cross Functional Team (CFT) in order to assess the potential causes of failures in a process. PFMEA is a useful tool to determine the effect of the failure and evaluate and prioritize the actions to reduce risk.
Process FMEA is used when a new process is designed or major changes in process is initiated. PFMEA is a practice in which the engineering team evaluates all the possible causes for failure. Such methodology is often applied at early stage of the process development; however it can be beneficial in the daily basis improvement and problem solving. Unlike many quality improvement tools, FMEAs do not require complicated statistics. FMEA studies can reduce the potential liability of a process that does not perform as promised.
PFMEA is one of the requirements of PPAP system which is mandatory to Tier 1/ Tier2 vendors supplying parts to OEM.
